My ticklishness is a sign of trust?
I'm going to submit another tickle question if you think you can answer.
Answer:
I think I understand where you are coming from. I used to be VERY ticklish, but I had an older cousin I didnt really trust that would hold me down and tickle me to the point where it would hurt. I mentally convinced myself that I wasnt ticklish anymore and it worked, I dont know how, but it did. Its like, when I was being tickled I had no control, and when you arent trusting the one doing the tickling, lack of control is not a good feeling. So, I was able to block it out, he tried again, and once more, and when he got no reactions, he finally gave up. This all took place when I was about 12.
Nowadays I can be ticklish when its someone I trust. It seems its as though IF I trust them, I can relinquish control, even just for a few moments...
Make sense?
It is just one of many symptoms of power and trust. Nothing particularly odd or notable.
wow, this question is completely different from anything that i've ever heard. i never really thought of tickling like this- but now that i think about it, people that i dont know very well that try to tickle me usually don't get a reaction.
wow that's some food for thought and it sounds good. i am not ticklish but i like your point of view cheers
How do you explain nervous laughter and disliking certain people tickling you, not trusting them at all, but having to put up with it and feeling ticklish at the time? :)
I like your theory though.
It makes sense to me. The only two people in my life that I feel that ticklish response to are my mother and the love of my life. Interesting that I am not alone in this. :O)
This sounds rational on the surface, but there are exceptions. I had very abusive siblings (all older than me), and they would pin me down and tickle torture me as a kid. I did not trust them one bit, but I laughed like crazy.
Then there was the time on a bus ride after a football game where I hurt my ankle and had my foot up on the seat in front of me. Two people in front of me were goofing between the isles, and leaning over my leg. Then I noticed a tickling feeling on my foot even though the two goofing in front of me weren't doing it. I couldn't help laughing, even though I didn't know who the attacker was. It turned out to be a cheerleader who saw the commotion and my bare foot sticking out. She couldn't help herself I guess.
