What did he mean by self preservation?
when i got my first boyfriend, my uncle told me i need to practice Self Preservation. what did he mean by that?
Answer:
Self-Preservation means to preserve what you have...it could be
your psyche--don't absorb anyone's negative opinion of you or embrace someone's rejection as anything other than sad or disappointing.
your mind--don't accept blame for something that's another person's choices, when you don't have any ability to change the outcome
your emotions--make your feelings at least as important as his...to not do so--to not put yourself first--can be an indicator of codependency...if your uncle is giving you this kind of advice, he is giving you credit for having maturity and wisdom, and consider yourself fortunate for having a relative who wants God's highest good for you...
your self--don't give up you in order to be loved by someone else
your values--if you value sexual integrity, don't allow someone to talk you into something that will turn you into a person your best friend wouldn't want you to turn into...Run Like Hell if need be...the human body was fashioned to respond sexually to specific stimulation, so don't expect it to be easy if you're in his bedroom admiring his etchings...
hang onto hope!
Not allowing anyone to cross the boundaries.in other words..not letting anyone touch you and respect you instead!
He meant to preserve yourself from possible danger, keep intact, and not fall head over heals for some guy to young and to soon, resulting in possibly coming "unglued" (broken heart, unwanted pregnancy, going to fast to soon etc)
Don't let anyone "take" you...... if you know what I mean. Preserve yourself for the right person.
Honey, your uncle meant that you should NOT HAVE SEX.
Trust me, I'm a 30 year old Teacher, and I know exactly what your uncle was talking about!
Self preservation, don't change or trade your life for his. You are your own person and while you share part your of life with another person you need your own life, separate from your relationship. Self preservation a very important thing to have, otherwise you could have an identity crisis; lose yourself in all the mess that a relationship can become. Your uncle is wise.
