Does using "Brain Freeze" as a punishment cause any long term psychological damage?

punishment = eating ice cream. your parents rock! seems like your parents are a little odd (no offense). no, brain freeze is not psychological damaging ,it is just an unpleasent feeling. all that is going on is temperature changes within your mouth and it effects your head. some will say, cavities can trigger this, although i am not sure about that.
well you should feel different, that is not a normal punishment. it is not normal to have lingering headaches either, which i am sure you get.

Causing pain of any kind to control children has a very real possibility of leaving lasting psychological damage, despite what the "I was beat and I turned out fine" folks will say.
The very person who a child looks to for safety and protection should not be a person who violates those basic aspects of the parent-child relationship. A parent needs to be a teacher, and in that role, he/she should teach reason, not fear.
Now, having said all that, perhaps if you look back at what your parents did as being "the best they knew how" in terms of parenting, you can forgive them and move on. I mean, chances are, they had your best interest at heart, and for that they deserve some tolerance, and perhaps an award for one of the more creative ideas for a consequence.
GOOD GRIEF! Rather than the brain-freeze causing damage, your parenting would DO IT!! WHAT on EARTH were they THINKING!! Really a kind of sadism, there!! Are they still alive and involved in your life? I hope not! As they sound like very toxic people to do that to a child!!! Would you do that to your child???
