If you wrongly utter a word, do you quickly admit your mistake or continue to defend yourself?

Answer:
Always consider your audience first. Some may not have even noticed the mistake or even care. However, if you are among noticeably sensitive people and you feel that you may have somehow offended them... correct it before you leave the room. This will personally socially mark you if you don't. Everybody is thinking "What a jerk!"

If someone calls you on the carpet for something you just said DON'T just jump back with a negative remark and continue to defend your obviously wrong point of view just based on your bruised ego. If you're wrong you're wrong... admit it. But if the other person can not offer enough empirical or even anecdotal data to support their contention just respond like this: "Well let's agree to disagree." and then just drop it to save face.

And don't let some moron try and turn that tried & true argument mitigation comment around on you. Stick to your guns on that one. It always works unless the other person is just spoiling for an fight. Metaphor: Always pick the hill the you want to die on too. Sometimes it's better to remain quiet and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt!
I will admit immediately screwing up.
D'you mean like a swear word? Or a thinking aloud faux pas?
admit it right then
I admit my mistake pretty quickly...I admit all my mistakes pretty quickly actually. It kind of annoys people sometimes, they say my confidence is so low it's scary.
Depends on what I'm talking about.
I usually admit it UNLESS someone points it out then I say "Well whatever, you get what I'm saying."
If someone calls me out for pronouncing a word wrong, I just laugh at them.
Honestly, who cares?
Admit it! Nobody "wrongly" utter a word, though sometimes we utter the wrong word. What comes from out mouth starts in our head and sometimes the part of our brain dedicated to keeping our feet out of our mouth is so overloaded that it cannot keep up with our unfiltered speech.

Admit it, you said what you meant and you meant just what you said. You just weren't quick enough to not let it come out.

Don't wiggle out. Apologize.
