Hey can any of you tell me what this is and where it came from?

I have heard some people suggest that if you want something think about it and concentrate on it real hard, visualize it, and then it will come true and happen. That's been suggested for relationships and other things. I just wonder if this is from some kind of book or something and does this have a name? Hopefully my question makes sense and sorry if it doesn't.

Answer:
Your question makes perfect sense, and there have been books and seminars about visualization and focusing before making dreams come true, around for many years.

I'll give you some specific ones that are currently "in the buzz", if you'd like to read them yourself.

Check out; The Secret, by Rhonda Byrne
Also, my favorite, The Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho

Hope this helps, and enjoy, because they are both great books.
With anything; what you focus on is what you get. Raise your level of awareness so that you will focus with clarity.
yes, you are describing a fallacy from the new book the secret and it is based on a lie called the law of attraction. there is nothing wrong with positive thinking, just don't think that by thinking alone you can make stuff happen...weird huh?
All that stuff is just jarb talk for work hard and you'll attain what your after! You don't need any self help, get rich quick , or any stinking money thievin greedy phycologist(not that all of them are bad) telling you jarbage, when all it is about is you getting motivated and going after it! whatever IT may be!
Well, basically what happens when you visualise something, concentrate on it and think about it all the time, your subconscious will lead you towards it. It's nothing magical, nothing unexplainable... just that. You just tell your subconscious you want that and it will work towards it.
The power of writing down your goals is simply extraordinary. Quite simply, THEY WORK. If you write down your goals on a piece of paper, then carry them around with you or stick your goals all around your house, car, and office so that you see them frequently, YOUR SUCCESS IS PRACTICALLY ASSURED. Know what you want. Know your outcome. Clarity is POWER! Your brain is constantly screening out and deleting 99.9% of everything you perceive. You would go crazy with ‘information overload’ if it didn’t!
Your Reticular Activating System (RAS) will bring to your attention that 0.01% that your brain feels is important. The way you can get your RAS to work for you in an empowering way… is by setting GOALS. When you write down a goal, you are in fact sending a clear order to your brain (and your RAS) that THIS IS IMPORTANT, THIS IS WHAT I WANT, NOW GET IT FOR ME! ..what is often repeated to the brain often becomes a reality ,(e.g. hypnotism , phantom pregnancies e.c.t )
Yes, there is a book or two out there making this claim. There is nothing mystical here. If one focuses on anything their chances of acquiring it or something like it increase because they do little things that move them in the direction of their desires. Just knowing one likes motorcycles for example, will cause you to make contact with people who ride and sooner or later you will get an opportunity to ride yourself. we move toward what we are interested in and most things can be had easier than we think.
Sounds like something a twelve-year-old might try.
Comes from 'Peter Pan'?
It's also in the Bible. I got a new wonerful husband that way.
GOD BLESS
Yeah, definitely that "The Secret" book. Ugh, I'm sick of that secret. It's supposedly the law of attraction, but I mean, with just thinking, you can't actually *achieve* anything important. You're just going too slow with your plans and you need to do more actino.
