What does a professor mean when she makes this statement about a student? A retard?
Yes this is in college and the guy is like 26 years old
Answer:
professors tend to think they are the greatest humans on the earth...and say what they want(I don't believe with much thought) if its a large class then he might not know this student. not to excuse him... but maybe send an anonymous letter to him explaining the student or report them.
If she made this remark, this is discrimination and should be reported to the Dean of Student Affairs immediately.
take care of him
i think she was trying to say just because he is different doesn't mean he isn't smart.
retard actually means held back
Of course you may be taking this out of context. She may have just been making a "tongue-in-cheek" remark. IOW HUMOR!
It is irresponsible to just jump to a conclusion of "discrimination" or reporting a faculty member capriciously. Challenge her: Ask her what she meant by this comment. Maybe he is "a little different". Maybe that just means he needs help to keep up with the rest of the class. Maybe he needs to take a more basic class. I assume this is not Psych-101 is it?
If it turns out she was really being abusive and acerbic toward him maybe there's more to their relationship than what's on the surface. Could there be "history" between the two? Jilted lover and all? Food for thought...
Don't jump to conclusions... do your homework. This is perfect field study for you.
