What do you guys make of this conversation?
Me; Why is that?
Him; Because drummers are lazy, self absorbed, and useless. All they do is hit things and call it music.
Me; But they keep time in the music.
Him; They dont keep time. I dont like drummers time keeping. I cant find a drummer I can lock into time with. Drum machines, they are brilliant. I love playing with Drum machines. But I cant lock into time with a drummer.
Me; Why do you think that is?
Him; Because all drummers play increasinlgy faster tempo's are they play.
Me; that depends on the drummer...
What do you lot make of that? As a drummer myself, should I have spiked him with a drum stick?

Absolutely! =P I'm a drummer myself and have never had a problem like that with anyone that I've played with. He seems not to realize that sometimes he has to conform with what we're doing to make the song sound good. Some instruments play off of others, others do their own thing; and the bands that can make both of those work are the bands that you hear about for decades.
A drummer goes into a music shop and says "I'd like that red saxophone and the grey accordian on the wall there." Guy behind the counter says "You're a drummer aren't you?", drummer says, " Yes, how did you know?". Counter guy says "Well I'll sell you the fire extinguisher but you can't have my central heating radiator."

It sounds like he was trying to goat you into a fight. I think you took the high road. He's probably just jealous that he's not a drummer.

Leave him his opinion. Being living proof that all drummers aren't like that.
You should have laughed and suggested nicely that perhaps since he seems to have issue with drummers in general that perhaps he should question his skills or lack of.
Drummers are great! They are real crazy people and we love them for that. As for this guy, well, tell him that it is probably HIM who's got the problem and not the drummers he's met. He probably needs to follow a drum machine because he's own beat time keeping is rubbish.
Eh, he's just jealous. Chicks don't dig the bass player, only the lead singer, and maybe the crazy drummer. The guy's just in denial.

This is universal mate. People get used to playing instruments on their own and it's very easy to sync with yourself and not so with other people. Time keeping in ensemble is something of an art that requires a lot of practice and patience. This bassist is an idiot - It's like an 'everyone is crazy except me' type of thing. He hasn't considered that his own time keeping is utter Sh******
He could have told you that all drumers do is beat off.
He's obviously a no talent hack without any real experience and I would not spend a moment more in thought about him. A good band depends on a drummer and bassist that really link together.
He's actually right about drum machines keeping a rock-steady tempo whereas drummers' tempos will vary slightly throughout a performance. Anyway, it sounds suspiciously like he's blaming his bad bass playing on drummers! Also, any bassist with that attitude probably isn't going to get very far!!
as a person who listens to alot of rock music etc...drums are AMAZING, they are the basis of the whole song..! and i've never heard drums out of time on music tracks..this guy just appears to have it in for drummers.

its like the old joke "what do you call the thing that a guitarist uses" a plectrum/pick? "no a drummer" somebody should tell neil peart hes not talented, he is the driving force behind rush. percussion is a musical talent equal to any other musical intruments playing. if that wasnt the case jimmy hendrix' "fire" would have fizzled at woodstock.

He sounds like a self absorbed jerk and I wouldn't put any weight into what he said. Drummers are awesome.
I think it's just normal. People have their own thoughts and they want to defend it.
I think you shouldn't do anything to him, including insult or else. But, just let the time pass by and he will understand what he had spoken and you will find out he will love drum more than anyone could be.
