Are questionnairres used in reserach classed as qualatative or quantative?
Answer:
Postal questionnaires generate quantitative data. They usuall consist of a short list of closed end questions which the respondant would answer by either selecting yes, no, or don't know, or evaluating how strongly they agree with the statement being made on a scale of 1 to 5. This is to try to increase respondant rates, as if the questionnaire takes too long, people will be less likely to fill it out.
Hope this helps
Questions can attempt to obtain quantitative data eg How many pets do you have?" or qualitative data eg "How much did you enjoy your holiday?" .. There would be a scale for responses to this question rating from "not at all" to "excellent".
Open questions usually obtain qualitative data. eg "Describe your experiences at enrolment." ...
both qualitative and quantitative.

Sometimes both.
Open questions such as what do you think about this? and then lets you write your opinion lead to qualitative data.
Closed questions such as Is this good, yes or no? Lead to quantitative data.
Some contain one or the other, but some others contain bothe types of questions.
