What is the diffence in Maslow's and Herzberg's model of motivation?
Answer:
..Maslow's theory - the hierarchy of needs explains that some needs are more urgent than others. When these are not yet satisfied, they produce a strong motivation. His theory applies to all walks of life.
Herzbeg's motivational theory was meant to apply to the workplace - to describe what motivates employees. He said there were two types of motivational factors -
Hygiene Factors - Baseline things employees expect to be present at work. So they demotivate if they are not present - things like supervision, interpersonal relations, physical working conditions, and salary. Hygiene Factors affect the level of dissatisfaction, but are they rarely quoted said to contribute to job satisfaction.
Motivation Factors aren't a basic expectation, so they motivate when they ARE present - things like achievement, advancement, recognition and responsibility. Dissatisfaction isn't normally blamed on motivation factors, but they do contribute to job satisfaction.
