Can't anybody out there take a joke?
Answer:
I've got the same problem. I get the occasional thumbs-down for some humor that I found wildly funny while I typed it. : )
Tough crowd.
LOL ... I got that right away ! Ha Ha Ha Ha . That`s the funniest I`ve heard in a long time . Good one ! Ha Ha Ha
I guess not.
Sometimes people aren't paying attention enough to notice that you've made a joke. Other times they might just not think it's funny or they have a different sense of humor (or in that case none at all) But the odds are they just don't get the joke. This is just what I can say from personal experience.
peoplea re like that most tiems it is because people are so tense and ready for bad things that they see the funny things as bad and serios..next time it happens simple smile and say it was a joke pat them on the head and say it will be o.k. sweetie.. if they dont laugh someone will
As long as we amuse ourselves, isn't that the inportant thing?
Keep it real Scooby
Humour is a wonderful thing. In it's place that is. Being able to inject humour into a situation is a gift. But it is also a talent which needs to be used very carefully. You see, many people who write to these columns are serious about issues which we may think humorous or a good target. Aiming humour at them or their situation may not be a good idea. The best kind of humour in these columns is that which you aim at yourself. That way, people are more likely to see the funny side of it because it's not being directed at sufferers.
For instance, I have a disability and because of that I use crutches. Now, if a person notes that I hate not being able to move as fast as others and remarks that I need wheels connected to engines on my sticks, that's fine, but, and this has happened, someone makes a really cruel hurtful remark like "You'd be better off dead" how do you think I would feel?"
So, sure, have your little joke, but make it simple and be careful where you aim it.
When I go to the bathroom, because I don't have good balance, I have to be careful where I aim it. Now that is aimed at me and although some may think it's a bit crude, it's also worth a smile; and it's not directed at others, just me.
I do it sometimes but I am basically a serious person. It`s hard to be like others, being serious is my second nature.(smiles)
