If everybody knows about the torture people are put through to obtain diamonds, why are they still bought?
Answer:
Because we all want that perfect wedding and regardless of wheather we believe it or not we dont really care about some one half way across the planet whom we dont even know exsists. Out of sight out of mind. And unless it effects us directly we tend not to give a $#!T about it. And because a lot of people will opt not to watch the movie coz it might upset them. Coz we really dont care as long as we get to live our perfect little life...

because we in the western world like to think diamonds as a symbol of love and wealth.. its all a status thing..
if we weren't so crazy about them than perhaps the world be in a better place.. or if people thought to buy them from civilized countries where that type of thing doesn't happen..

Our goverment, to me, isn't all that concerned with the situation of torturing people and daimonds. Most people in the world love daimonds and don't care how they are brought to their countries. As long as they can buy them, it's not important to them.
diamonds are only rocks to me. the beginning of the tradition of praising these useless shiny rocks came from egypt. the guy who made this tradition is probably a powerful one so its not good to break his tradition and now this is not stopped.
Sometimes people don't empathise with things that happen to others.
And of course, people will buy diamonds for all sorts of reasons, including the celebrity value.

People still buy diamonds.simply as that, if these south africans cans provide them at a substantial cost, someone is sure to acquire them.. normally on the black market.. no pun intended.
Greed plain and simple. Its horrible, I work in the diamond business and the only thing any woman getting engaged or married wants is a big huge diamond. They do not care how it got here perhaps they did not see the movie blood diamonds. I personally have traveled to Antwerp where diamonds are imported and brought through several exchanges including London and New York. I can only say that it is important to know you are getting a conflict free diamond. The fact is that any diamond that is purchased directly out of Africa that is not documented is likely a conflict diamond. Furthermore because the risk involved in taking the high end best quality for the dollar diamonds out of Africa many diamonds are unable to be tracked. It is a shame. I pride myself by specializing in Clarity Enhanced real diamonds that are conflict free and honestly once a woman heres the diamond has been clarity enhanced she runs from it. That simply means it is gas pressurized to bring out the color a little bit. But they think it is lazer drilling, fracture filling and all kinds of b.s. the fact is if you want to be confident you are not getting a conflict diamond your chances are better with a Clarity Enhanced real diamond because chances are nobody risked their life for an original off color diamond out of Africa that was cleaned up under gas when it arrived in one of the exchanges. However, even saying that women are women and each man I speak with could care less about diamonds. I sell them and they are rocks, and it is a shame people are dying for rocks.
