Answer:
To me love is loving someone more than one's self, It's wanting the best for the other person and helping them to get it. IT's knowing that you're life is empty with out them in it. Love is wanting to hear the person's voice and to feel their arms around you.
You know that they love you when they put you first. When you're the most important person in their life even above any childlren you may have. My parents have been married for 63 years and there were times when my parents would tell us kids to go to our rooms and read or play or do something quiet becasue they wanted time to them selfs. When we reached our teen years everyone was in thier bedroom at ten so that my parent could spend time by themselfs with out worrying about the kids. They made sure that we knew not to interupt them unless someone was bleeding, not breathing or a fire was found. They didn't always go into thier room sometimes they were just talking in the kitchen but they wanted to be able to focus on themselves. When ever we had desert unless it was your birthday cake we knew that Dad got the last helping. Their actions said that as much as they loved us they loved each other more and that when we were grown and on our own they still wanted to have a relationship that was as fresh and vital as it was when they got married. They didn't want their marriagie to fall apart becasue they had spent all of their marraige focused on the kids and not taking care of their marraige. My father still buys my mother flowers just becasue, she still makes his favorite cake and they still dance and love just because they can. that's their quote not mine.

Well isn't that the million dollar question! I don't think there is any simply answer. If the other person makes you happy and you want to make them happy, that's pretty close.
Love, simply put is being attracted to a person by certain characteristics (whether they be physical or mental) but one step further.
I suggest asking yourself these questions:
What would you give up to spare that person any pain?
How much do you want to find out about that person (Their past, hobbies, likes, dislikes, etc.)
Do you really care about their feelings? (For example, trying to force yourself beside the person when they want some alone time would not be considering their feelings.)
Based on those answers you should be able to figure out if you love the person or are just attracted to them.
