When your heart breaks?

You know how they say so and so died of a broken heart...or that empty feeling you get in your chest when you lose someone you love?
Is there some sort of an effect on your heart...physical or chemical effects or is it something else going on inside your body?

Answer:
Oh yes the body reacts to stress and a broken heart, your appetite suppresses, your stomach cramps, your heart feels like it going to burst out of your chest, your blood sugars drop..your head starts to hurt...oh yes the body reacts..there has been several cases where the immune system shuts down on a person when they give up because of a broken heart...the human spirit is very strong and when you give up the body follows...hope it helps
It is actual physical pain induced by the grief of loss. I don't think it is in the heart, but the entire chest area hurts. Kind of like severe muscle spasms.
when the heart is broken, your entire being suffers, both emotional and physical. it will surely affect your digestive system due to lack of appetite, loss of weight.
