You need to see a therapist - you could be obsessive-compulsive, or have a phobia. There are medications and therapies for both.

I don't if there is but if not there should be. I know several people with that fear. I myself have the fear but only around certain people.
Since I have gained a lot of weight I hate eating in front of other people because I feel like they are secretly making fun of me. Like, "why is she eating, doesn't she know how fat she is?"
it's ok to not feel comfortable eating in front of stangers, then if a stranger becomes a friend you become more comfortable right? i am the same way and my reason is because i think i look funny eating. it's just a little insecurity issue i have with myself, i dont think it's that big of a deal.
I am the same way! I hate to have a meal with people I don't know that well.or someone I want to date. It makes me terribly nervous. I don't know if there is anything wrong with us, so I don't have an answer.I just wanted you to know that you are not alone!
Some people fear drinking in public as they are concerned that their hand will shake, other people will notice and evaluate them negatively. Other social anxiety sufferers fear eating in public as they are concerned that they will spill their food or eat messily.(Schneier & Welkowitz, 1996). Not surprisingly, people who fear eating in public often report avoiding foods that are difficult to eat such as: spaghetti, a hamburger with the lot, or a salad sandwich.

Nothing is wrong with you I have the same problem, but I found out the more you worry about it, the more you food will fall or you will make a mess. Try not to think about it so much, I know its hard, but try to distract yourself to keep your mind off of who might be watching you.
Without proper professional testing it's hard to say what might be going on... maybe you're just shy around strangers, and it probably isn't anything to get distressed about. Perhaps a little time with a therapist can help you resolve shyness or self-esteem issues... mostly, it sounds like a little bit of help in social skills would be helpful, and a therapist can help with that in just a few sessions. ;)
I have the same problem. I never have been comfortable eating in restaurants or at social functions. It shouldn't be a big deal unless your level of discomfort is severe. Some people are just more reserved in their public behavior.
