How common is it for people to think they have Asperger's syndrome?
Answer:
If you continue to read about developmental disabilities, or any mental illnesses for that matter, you will almost always realise there are many signs of each of them that you have. Does that necessarily mean you have a variety of disorders?
For your thoughts.
It is not common at all. It might help you to talk with a dr. or counselor. Is your problems a big problem in your life - do they interfer with your being able to relate to others. You may just be a very honest person. Everyone follows patterns to soe extent - does it hurt your functioning? A lot of this is a question of degrees. Talk to someone in addition to your research.
I think you mean "How common is Asperger's Syndrome?"
You'll find a much higher percentage online than in person because Aspies tend to communicate far better via computer than in person.
The "Too honest" thing refers to the inability to lie about social things when necessary. When an ugly girl asks, "How do you think I look in this new dress?", an Aspie might answer "You still look ugly." Whereas a neurotypical would never do that and would probably say something like "You look great."
Anyhow, you'll need more than that to be an aspie. Other markers:
1. Above average IQ.
2. Difficulty with eye contact.
3. Social dislikes.
4. Absolute intolerance of change.
5. Repetitive motions.
6. Collecting of useless objects (bottle caps, etc.).
7. Ritualistic behavior.
8. Preference for being alone (all autistic are like that).
9. Savant skill like music (Mozart) or Computers or medicine.
