I believe there is a connection between violence and any type of incest. Incest by a mother is an extremely taboo subject. It has only been recently that researchers are beginning to look into it and helping professionals are acknowledging this is a serious problem.
I have worked with sexual abuse victims for several years, and I have found that those who were sexually abused by their mothers or women family members often have a difficult recovery process. I think this has to do with it being such a taboo subject. It is uncomfortable to think about, talk about and read about. No one wants to believe that mothers are capable of such atrocities.
Violence in general begets violence. I think the bigger question is why are some people so resilient and others not?
