Are my phobias out of control? am I normal?
Im always scared of the chemicals..any kind. I stopped dyeing my hair because Im scared that the dye will get in my eyes and I'll ge blind. I am also scared that when i clean the restroom the ajax or cleaners will get in my eyes and I'll get blind or my skin will burn. When Im driving Im scared of the refelction of the sun on the cars because if I see it I think I'll become blind! sometimes i close my eyes a little until the car drives away and reflection doesnt hit my eyes... Im so scared.. is this normal?
Answer:
Well, if you're nuts, so am I! I don't think that there's anything wrong with being cautious around chemicals, for heavens sake--they are toxic! Perhaps you are just in need of some reassurance.
1. You don't need to use ANY toxic chemicals to effectively clean and sanitize.
2. Dow, ajax, bleach, etc. WILL blind you if they get in your eye, you are absolutely right. Your vision is precious; protect it. If you must use these products, wear glasses. Also wear protective gloves as the chemicals can burn your skin with prolonged contact. Use adequate ventilation *always* because the fumes can harm your lungs, even burn airways if they are strong enough.
3. You can be blinded looking directly into the sun, although it would take more than 2 seconds, you know? That's not to say that UV rays aren't going to harm your eyes, protect them with sunglasses every day (especially when the sun is brightest) and in the winter, it reflects off of the snow.
4. You don't want to dye your hair anyway, all this crap pollutes our earth and is slowly killing us in the water supply, PLEASE just don't do it. Too much damage is being done to us and our kids in the name of vanity. Ammonia is a main ingredient in many of the hair dyes. Don't be fooled by the "natural" ones, either, they contain nasty stuff too.
Sorry if I am freaking you out more that you already were, but you are absolutely entitled to feel the way you do. Let that gut feeling be your guide to educate yourself about this stuff, that's what I did, and now I can tell others about it. Hope this helps! : )
don't have sex or you'll really go blind. i think your way out of the normal range. pretty close to the time to be committed range.
Well, that's definitely not normal. I've yet to encounter anyone obsessing over going blind like that. That isn't to say you're crazy, or even close to it, but if it is getting in the way of everyday life, as it sounds like it is, you should really get some professional help.
whenever your concerns or worries start to curb your behaviour, you need to be honest & ready to face certain choices (about what you need to do)
you don't want fears or worries to begin impairing your life & ability to live it- that's when phobias need to be counselled & dealt with.
i.e. closing your eyes while driving is not a good thing
normal is irrelevant @this point, its about living your life without succumbing to unwarranted phobias. you have worries that greater than they should be, that's all.
rest assured you are normal & not out of control, you simply are losing confidence in unnecessary things, & getting caught up in fears that are out of your control.
any credible therapist will help you speedily back on track
good luck
It is not normal for you to feel this way. Anything that interferes with your everyday life like this is not normal and you should not be living in fear. You could be endangering your life by closing your eyes when a car passes you, what if you would get into a car accident? You really should see a professional. Phobias are difficult to live with and you need to find the "real" reason behind this phobia. Do you know someone who is blind? Have you heard of someone going blind from using chemicals or from a cars reflection? You also need to be able to sense when your anxiety is starting. If you see hairdye in the box at a store are you already becoming anxious? Maybe you should wear protective goggles when using chemicals and wear sun glasses when driving. Also, I think it is important for you to do self talk. Tell yourself that you are fine and you will be as long as you believe it. I feel that the more you realize that these phobias are just that, phobias, not real, and tell yourself that you are being ridiculous, you will start to feel better. Talk to yourself while you clean or drive.
Do you perform any rituals when you come in close contact with chemicals? It sounds like you have some of they symptoms of OCD. I have a close friend who has funny thoughts about certian things but he does not do any rituals. He talks to a physcologist twice a week, maybe you should do the same.
