Why do people who have everything become depressed?

Answer:
The human heart and soul needs struggle and resistance.
We need uncertainty in our lives. We are designed to overcome adversity.
Without uncertainty and the unknown, life is just the stale repetition of outworn memories. You become the victim of the past, and your tormentor today is your own self, left over from just another yesterday. That is pretty depressing.

I'll take a healthy goal or challenge over "having everything", any day.

.
Because they have nothing to look forward to and rarely appreciate anything since they are used to getting anything they want when they want.
Because they're idiots.
There's that old saying "money can't buy happiness."

For some people, the thrill of having new things is fleeting and they can't learn to appreciate what they have. Everything gets old and all they have is a bunch of stuff. King Solomon from the Bible is a pretty good example of this. He was the wealthiest man EVER in his time, and yet eventually became super-depressed because material things cannot satisfy all that we as humans need.
depression is because of chemical imbalance of the brain...it happens physiologically..imagine a woman who gives birth and then becomes depressed.it is something to do with chemicals in the brain.stress can contribute to this imbalance..no matter you have everything or nothing if you go through a lot of stress you will get depressed.if you want to try this theory yourself you can do a test.go and get some Licorice roots and make some tea and drink it for several days then stop it all of sudden...then you see the result you will get depressed.it works through the same system.try it
Speaking as someone who has nearly everything: A. Because they realize that having everything isn't everything. Or B. Because they have a chemical imbalance, which can be hereditary.
Because it only "appears" like they have 'everything'. People get depressed when they are not taught how to (if at all) handle stressful situations.
Because things do not make people happy. For example the saying "money doesn't buy love". You can not pay someone to be in love with you. I think people who have everything become depressed because they have lost a lot of the things that they once cared for a lot before they had a lot of things. Example: a man has a girlfriend and they love each other but then the man becomes very successful, rich, etc. Now his spends more time away from his GF because his job depends on it. So now the man basically has everything money, success, etc although he doesn't the girl he once had. In the end when he looks at it he was happier when he had nothing but her and now all he has is a big house, lots of money, and no one to sure it with.
possible nothing more they can achieve or that is the general perception, lack of motivation as they do not have to work at anything it is just there

Maybe having everything is not what they really want at all, may it is just all too superficial

Good Question
Depression is an illness. Money, power, possessions, even a loving family have little if anything to do with it. Of course, some circumstances could make depression worse. It can be genetic or hormonal.
