She's afraid of writing research papers because she's afraid of being told that she's not making sense or didn't follow directions. But she wants to further her career & go to Graduate school. & she experienced a lot of mental abuse & trauma as a child & associates not making sense with being crazy because that's all her family has taught her-that when she's not making sense, then that means she's crazy. How can I help her out of this? & her professors tell her all the time that her writing is incoherent & doesn't make sense-or they might tell her that she wasn't following directions. So she feels discouraged from writing papers. She does have a mental disability & comprehension problems. She already has a BA in Spanish, but her GPA is low, & she wants to get into Grad School. She's very determined but her fear is stopping her.
Answer:
Well, that is a little more than fear. There are actual mental restrictions that can be overcome, but take much more time and work. I would recommend joining a separate writing class to help on useful tips and information before jumping into graduate school. Lots and lots of different writing classes, too. Knowledge is power, and the more comfortable your friend feels about writing papers and the more papers written should help a lot. Otherwise, perhaps getting a tutor may help.
