What makes us truly human?

Answer:
Being a being.
a large brain that has evolved into us making so many tools that it has overcrowded our planet. we label things, we make and use things, we eat cooked food, and we care for each other a lot more than other species
The ability to think and act of our own free will.
Our emotions. Our ability to love, and also to hate. Our ability to judge, and to choose. How we can build someone up, and also tear them down. Our ability to have absolute faith in something, or someone. The way we trust. That's all I can come up with at 11pm.
The cranial neuron count, for sure. What's important about it is the way it is wired to make us self-aware.

But there's much more: Love, sex, closeness. The ability to share feelings and experiences at in intensely detailed level; poetry, religion, sympathy, empathy...

Hatred, too. Smart religion and stupid religion. destructiveness, licentiousness, slovenliness, and all other bad things about us, as well as the good things.

But at best, it is our awareness that there is a future, and our central craving to still be a part of it and to do a service to its inhabitants. If anyone fails to understand what that means, I am sorry for you.
self-awareness, the very thing that made you ask that question. everything else can be found in other living creatures - including the developed brain, dolphins.
