Help me to set up a presentation on social influences on behavior?

consider these concepts: social facliltation, csocial loafing. attribution

Answer:
As I am not going to do your work for you, I am assuming that you have some sort of textbook available to define the terms listed. Also, presentaions are to be done in outline format. Therefore, terms and definitions can be used, but discussion is to be used as talking points about what is presented per slide. However, I do hope this helps you sort of plan out/organize the thoughts, if you decide to incorporate any of it into your final presentation. Warning, please don't plagerize.

Social influences on behavior fall under the umbrella of social norms and group processes. Therefore, you could evaluate the above in regards to Social Impact theory.

First Slide: Simply put: Social influences influence behavior.
Second Slide: Ask question: "Is it possible to be influenced by society even if no one is around?" --Say but don't put into presentation. Yes, when you wake up in the morning, do you consider the days events (society) when making up your mind on what clothes you put on? Pause for dramatic effect.
Then, use powerpoint to sort of phase in the question: "how does society influence you in society" come up with your
own examples (again, don't actually list them on screen) and present them (i.e. - you wouldn't smack random people on the back of the head, you wouldn't burp in public, you wouldn't etc.) Conclude (don't list in presentation...this is a transition): Why is it that we behave according to social norms?

Third slide: Why? Social Impact theory: social influence, whether or notpart of norms) leads to conformity or obedience and depends on number, immediacy, and strength (*look in book as to what this means and be sure to cite your source correctly! Whatever you do, don't plagerize! I actually don't have the exact social experiments handy to give you, but you should be able to find them. If I do have one, I will list it. But, other than that...just try to relate this to )

Fouth slide: Functions of norms: 1. social control, 2. prediction and stress reduction, 3. creation of group cohesiveness 4. maintenance of self-concept (define each of these as you go thru them and cite your source!) *Basically, set up why we as ind. need society to infl beh (i.e. - it is a good thing) and that it does indeed do so.slide 5 begins the contrast - meaning, when social norms get in the way of normal functioning

Fifth slide: What happens when norms clash? Answer: social dilemma (three approaches: prosocial, individualistic, comptetitive) and resource dilemma Define each and cite as you go along.

Sixth slide: Belonging to a group Why? need fulfillment, goal attainment, sources of info

Then, phase in (as transition) society can actually hinder performance and the ind. in a group. (i.e. social loafing, facilitation, and attribution)

Seventh slide: Social faciliation - define it as and discuss how it relates to group (i.e. - how our perfomance is increased or decreased by being in a group)
Discuss Tripett findings that arousal produces improved performance VS. Zojanc findings (arousal produces reduced performance). If you have time, mention Blascovich's challenge vs. threat b/c it sort of theorizes the above two (i.e. - mere presence, evaluation apprehension, distraction)
** This all can be incorporated in word phrases on the slide, but use most of your material as part of your presentation. Again, the slides in a presentation are used as prompts or as an outline to highlight your main talking points.

Seventh slide Social loafing
- define it (don't forget to cite)
- Factors that reduce social loafing (i.e. - part. believe that their ind. efforts can be identified, task is challenging or appealling to ind., intergroup competition

Eighth slide: Attibrution error (Heider fundamental attribution theory) vs. Actor/observer attributional divergence vs. just world theory

Ninth Slide: Stereotyping and Prejudice
- Group think, group polorization (james Stoner), false consensus bias, and deindividuation (Darley and Lantage study and Kitty Genovase case) leads to sterotyping and prejudice. (duncan, 1976 study and the robbers cave experiment) terms: confirmation bias, self-fulfilling prophecy,

Tenth slide: "Why we do what we do."
Discuss Fund. Att.Error, social facil., and social loafing in terms of group think (may relate back to robbers cave experiment) and social comparison
**Take everything from all of the slides and come up with a main idea. IE - society can be seen to have positve and neg effects on the ind. As I have shown, the following concl can be made (phase each in). In order to keep ourselves in check, self awareness theory postulates.and these factors dec. deindiviudalization. Thus, eliminatng (this is really too strong a word for the actual presentation, but this is just an idea) the way we can deindividualize (actually not a word but it makes sense in that I am trying to articulate my point for self awareness theory), or increase personal responsibility. Define self-awareness theory (Zimbardo). Also, you can include your own ideas here or on one more slide as conclusions and discussion. B/c you shouldn't really incorporate your own ideas elsewhere, this is the time to really show that you can think conceptually in regards to this stuff.

Eleventh slide: recommended readings.

Anyway, I hope this helps you get started. And, good luck with your presentation.
Family to non family? History and how far we have come and what being by yourself and alone in a world without the net working of a close knit family and how Living together weakens a community .This will then open up sub titles of social facilitations. etc etc .
