Do you find your friends & family getting annoyed with you?...?

If you don't answer your mobile phone when they call? I find this SO iritating... "I called but you didn't pick up!?" They demand of me.Am I led to believe in this modern communications revolution one can't even bathe, eat, sh*t or even IGNORE ones phone for a while, or even take a nap when you want? When I'm hoovering with the music on, singing and getting on with my work am I supposed to have the darn thing strapped to my neck 'just in case' these people call?

Yes, I could turn it off...imagine their wrath if I did and they called...
"I called but your phone was OFF! Why?? Do you hate me?"
Grrrr! Are they paranoid or what.?

Answer:
Yes. Only my father and sometimes my sister. My friends understand. I just laugh it off. Just do what I do, tell them you were doing something totally embarrassing (sex, masturbating, bleaching your anus, changing your tampon.whatever) and they'll have no idea how to respond! They will stop hounding you and learn how to leave a message. Great question, totally cracked me up! I love my alone time as well, if the phone rings than pffffffffffft so be it, let it ring!
I'm very impartial about not answering my cellphone. I only pick it up if it is convenient to ME. Over time people have learnt that I will call them back within 24 hours. But really letting technology run your life instead of make it simpler is really stupid. Dont worry your family will learn if you teach them well. Perseverance is the key.
Can you imagine we survived without the phone-leash up until 10 years ago? I get annoyed at those types of things. Luckily I have crappy reception at my home. On the road I don't pick up unless I see the ID.
You might get annoyed with your family, mine piss me off bad often but if you got good family they will always be there for you,Friends will come and go while year after ,year they will be around..If they are not giving you space as an individual, different matter, tell them,if they dont listen just do what you want...Trust your instincts..Dial a Cliche says," You can choose your friends but not your family"...UGhhhhh
Oh my gosh, I couldn't agree with you more. Is there some unwritten law or some silent code people agree to when they sign their wireless contract that say you MUST pick up your phone when it rings? These "modern communication technologies" (cell phones, PDAs, e-mail) are great, but they can also be a HUGE time waster...I know I can't possibly have an effective work day if I'm answering my phone every 10 minutes or checking e-mail.

Someone once told me...even back before cell phones... "the phone is there as a CONVENIENCE and a tool". I've always stood by that. Family dinner time...the TV was off and we didn't answer the phone. This goes for when you're having dinner with someone too...that drive me nuts...I'm like "if you'd rather be talking with the person on the phone, than why aren't you having dinner with them?"

I know I've annoyed some people because I didn't answer my phone, but tough...live with it! I'm out having a life and interacting with REAL people. I believe we have a right and even an obligation to "unplug" from time to time. How can we possibly be effective if we are always multitasking, checking e-mails, checking voicemails, returning phone calls?

You just stay tough (in psychology this would be called "setting your boundaries") and tell your family, "look, I have a right to my privacy and quiet space...if I can't unplug and take care of myself, how can I possibly be a whole, real person when I spend time with you." It's taken some time, but I've somewhat had to train people that hey, when I'm out exercising, cleaning, working in my garden, or just flat out want to be left alone--I have that right.and it's not rude or selfish. We have a right to set limits and not be at someone someone else's beck and call or live according to their agenda.

Hope this helps! Best wishes.
yes i bug them
As an 'oldie' I came fairly late to the mobile phone phenomenon - but eventually succumbed and got one - so it REALLY irritates me , when my grown up children, do not answer when I call (not just me, I have been with them when they don't answer other people)...what is the point of buying them, carrying them around, and then...IGNORING the blooming thing! I babysat last week (the 2 year old) and during the day, called my daughter's phone, and then her husbands', and then the friend who was with them...not one of them picked up...what if it had been an emergency, how would I have contacted them?
Personally I do not see why any one would have a mobile and not answer, if you have a mobile it is so you can be contacted at any time anywhere no?!, the thing I hate most is when the person leaves the com-box or answer machine on so you loose your last 10 pence and then does not call back any way, I have a mobile and if I do not want to answer I turn it OFF
I know the feeling well lol. Every time my wife calls and i do not answer, i always get ''where have you been''.
yes babes it is so annoying
My friends only get annoyed when i hurt them. I'm sure you're the same.

For example, the other day I was walking with my best friend Grike, and I pushed him into the path of an on coming 4x4.

At his funeral his mom came up to me all like "Oh now he's dead! Look at what you did! You're a monster! I hate you!" And i was like so what he's dead we were only fooling around. And now i've got some court case and I'm like waiting for it to begin and I'm like, why do people get so worked up?

Know what I mean? I'm glad i found someone in my shoes. Or as I call them - my narky shoes!!

Nark!
just leave it on answer machine mode
then you can call them when you want and on silent so it wont disturb you
