Is there a sociopath in your life? How do you deal with the person?
Answer:
whats wrong with being a sociopath?
not that I know of. but I would want to do something to intervene before that person caused harm.
Chances are yes. Unfortunately, they are seen as normal people until they do something really bad. I see a few "potentials" in the group of kids I work with. I know I will eventually see them in the news or "Cold Case Files".
Yes my mother in law, I couldn't take much more and told her i have washed my hands of her. After doing that i felt a great weight being lifted off my chest. The sad thing is they never realize they have a problem!
sociopath is a pretty strong classifiaction of person & many people dont actually fit into it.
most potential sociopaths i have seen are mostly kids that are in bad families & honestly, it is too late for them & yes- i will prolly see them on news or sensationalized case study etc
(sad b/c there are not the programs in existence or care needed to help such kids, & their families are least helpful)
avoidance is usually my first bet but not practical (antisocial and impulsive behaviour)
limiting your vulnerability to such persons & knowing what to "battles" are worth fighting, are a good start.
know what laws or parameters you are confined by, will help immensely & help you with what kind of contact you will have with person (confronting person, or best to just transfer out of department)
"The main characteristic of a sociopath is a disregard for the rights of others. Sociopaths are also unable to conform to what society defines as a normal personality." wisegeek.com
