It will not help you to hold on to an acquaintance whom you cannot depend on to keep his promises to you. You should just move on unless he changes his behavior and his communication style.
I was in a similar situation recently. You should move on. Save yourself the time & heartache. There are plenty of fish in the sea. Find a guy that at least has the common decency and respect to respond to you and keep his word.
This person served the purpose of being a temporary mentor in your life - his lack of follow up and follow through on things he agreed to do for you must have been disappointing. I agree with your style and loss of interest, I would feel the same way and would not be inclined to pursue contact with him. Fortunately, you discovered his unreliable tendencies before investing too much time and energy in the friendship. Move on, make room for someone you can count on.
