What causes obsessive behavior?
Answer:
I think Pinky hit the nail on the head. I think if you feel your world is out of control, you can gain back a sense of control in your life by obsessing about something. This can be a source of comfort ( coping mechanism ) for the person obsessing because they feel there is at least 1 thing in their life they have control over when everything else feels out of their control. Obsessive behaviors could also be from a chemical imbalance or someone might have learned this behavior as a child from a parent.
A need to control and feel comforted.
Usually a need to control anxiety.
I think it's a way to deal with anxiety (that you're feeling.) Great question btw
Normally it’s caused by messed up serotonin receptors in the caudate nucleus, meaning it has trouble relaying signals from the orbital-frontal cortex to the thalamus, causing obsessive behaviors, due to the message going back and forth without being properly received by the caudate nucleus.
man this is gonna make me crazy until I figure it out! :)
sadly, I'm only half kidding. . .
but seriously,
it could be a symptom of depression --the clinical kind. there are different kinds of depression and there is a kind that is called low grade which is quite subtle.
