How to get over a phobia?
Please!
Answer:
What you seem to have is a Phobic disorder or Panic disorder, recurrent attacks of overwhelming anxiety that include heart palpitations, shortness of breath, sweating, faintness, and great fear. Other refers to as panic attacks.
Using brain imaging technologies and neurochemical techniques, scientists are finding that a network of interacting structures is responsible for these emotions. Much research centers on the amygdala, an almond-shaped structure deep within the brain. The amygdala is believed to serve as a communications hub between the parts of the brain that process incoming sensory signals and the parts that interpret them. It can signal that a threat is present, thus triggering a fear response (anxiety). It appears that emotional memories stored in the central part of the amygdala may play a role in disorders involving very distinct fears, like phobias, while different parts may be involved in other forms of anxiety.
By learning more about brain circuitry involved in fear and anxiety, scientists may be able to devise more specific treatments for anxiety disorders. It someday may be possible to increase the influence of the thinking parts of the brain on the amygdala, thus placing the fear and anxiety response under conscious control. In addition, with new findings about neurogenesis (birth of new brain cells) throughout life, perhaps a method will be found to stimulate growth of new neurons in the hippocampus in people with severe anxiety.
You have to face it and think about it.
Well the best way to get rid of a phobia is to slowly get used to it. And don't worry lots of people are afraid of thunder. There's no quick way to just be rid of it. Just search for a sound recording of thunder and play it maybe once to three times a day. Turn the volume down to where you can just hear it. Slowly increase the volume every ten minutes or so. Do this for about twenty to thirty minutes a day or every other day and slowly increase the time. It may seem like a pain to do but if you really want the phobia gone, it'll take some work.
* Listen to music to drown out the thunder. (like an I-pod)
* Keep yourself busy with books, drawing, or any other recreational activity.
* Count the thunder.
* Repeat to yourself that you are not scared.
* Make a "safe place". All you need to do is think of a place you are fond of. It can even be in your imagination. Just think about the safe place during hard times. Mine is a snowy field during a full moon.
Hope this helps. I have many phobias. The best thing to do is believe you will overcome them. I wouldn't recommend using things connected to the power. Battery powered all the way!
Yes, you can. There is such a thing as a "spirit of fear". Go to your friends who are committed Christians. Ask them to pray for you. In the mean time, please read Psalm 27 and Psalm 91. These psalms will help you to deal with all kinds of phobias known or unknown.
ur afraid of loud noise what r u going to do if u go to a rock concert or somthin i mean i am 12 and i am not afriad of thunder storms just relax and try to ignore it and say it cant hurt me i am indoors just go watch tv or somthin while the thunder storm is going.
I dont know if this will help or not, but I have anxiety disorder and whenever I feel like Im about to have a panic attack I try to take deep breaths to keep my mind focused. This wont get rid of the phobia, but it could help you cope with it.
