In the movie ''Forrest Gump'' when Forrest is running, and running all over the country, what is this called?

like i know its suppose to symbolize him ''finding him self'' but is there a real term for this and is it normal if someone has to come throught something like this? What other ways is this represent in?

cross country running. It was a huge fad to do this during the late 80s and throughout most of the 90s. I forgot why though..

Well..."jogging" would most likely be what you would call it. Before the late 70's..no one called it "jogging" and the craze was just beginning.
Because of his handicap as a child, and the running he did to become stronger...it became the all important thing in his life..as far as it was "running" that took him to all the heights he achieved...(in Viet-Nam, etc.)...and because "Jenny" had always encouraged him to run, he ran for her...
A great movie...a great life lesson (that you can do ANYTHING you set your mind to...even if you "think" you're handicapped...you can still achieve GREAT things in life)...and a tear-jerker to boot...
Loved it.
