Is reverse transference is possible? the therapist falling in love with his/her patient?
Answer:
Yes I'm sure that it's happened in the history of psychotherapy but for the therapist to act on it is not only unethically but but it's also illegal. That would mean that the therapist took advantage of a person when they are in a very vunerable situation. There are times when the person in therapy believes that they love the therapist not realizing that it's not really love but transference. So for them to have a therapist take advantage of the situation is very damaging to them emotionally. If a therapist finds themselves falling in love with their patient they should remove them self's from the case and transfer it to another therapist.
There are lots of unethical therapists out there that take advantadge of their patients. Is it possible? Doh. Yeah.
oh come on...thats pretty much the entire reason they become "therapists"...the - rapist?.hmmmm
I believe so just from my own experience. As a therapist one listens to the persons greatest fears, goals, and needs. As time goes on, knowing a person that "intimately" begins to give a sense of "love" and in a way real love (not just a sense) for that person as you try to help them.
