I have a friend who is diagnosed as transgender?
Can they over like alcoholism?
Answer:
The short answer is no.
For the long answer, see below.
I was diagnosed as having Gender Identity Disorder when I was 39. In my case, I had feelings of being female as early as kindergarten. Every time the issue came up though, I was forced to repress it (mostly by my parents). I repressed it and was increasingly depressed as I got older. I didn't realize why I was so depressed. I have a great family and a good job. Even after years of taking antidepressants, it only got worse. Eventually, my mind basically rejected my body. I realized that my body was covered in hair that shouldn't be there. Next, every male attribute such as my voice, my face, etc. about drove me crazy! After I was officially diagnosed, I came home and looked in the mirror and actually felt like I was in someone elses body! I tried to repress it but once this cat is out of the bag, there is no putting it back! As much as I dreaded it, I had to move forward with hormones etc. It has been extremely difficult for me because I love my wife so much and don't want to do this to her. Unfortunately, I have no choice. After several years, she is finally accepting it.
I hope this helps.
Sincerely,
Jennifer
this is hard cause its not harmful, so people keep enjoying in it. in puberty I found out that I like to be more girly and after years I still have that feeling. I would like to go somewhere and buy female clothes and enjoy in them. this is hard to get over, no one cant really change about this. maybe they can, but they still have thoughts about it.
Since you say your friend has been 'diagnosed as transgender', I presume you mean you friend is transsexual, since transgender doesn't have a 'diagnosis'.in which case, No, you can't 'overcome' it, any more than you can 'overcome' being tall, or being Chinese...it's how you're born.
It can be treated though; HBIGDA triadic treatment is the only effective treatment, and it's 98% successful.
