Is this just some sort of quirk about me?

Sometimes around groups of noisy people I feel very uncomfortable. For example, today durring fifth hour everyone in the class was talking at once and it really started to bother me. I wanted to scream or run out of the room, almost like I was angry at all of them. In an effort to calm down I was chewing a straw from lunch, playing with a keychain (like pulling or stroking), and finally using my mp3 player to block them all out. The next hour was better, but I still felt like I was liable to go off at anyone who so much as spoke to me. This, while not frequent, has happened to me before, more so this year. Does anyone else deal with something like this? Or why it happens? (I'm not overly stressed out, in fact, this is one of the low key times durring the year). I'd really appreciate your input on this.
Thanks!

Answer:
Yes. This happens to me. It's because you feel the emotional energy of the other people. Sound waves after all are energy. You get overwhelmed because it all comes at you at once. Anger is how you deal with it because it helps you to feel in control. Try some deep breathing when this happens. It probably won't work immediately the first time you do it, but practice makes perfect. This helps you to regain control of your own emotions as it helps you center yourself and also balances your body's respiratory processes having positive effects on the whole. Also, changing your diet helps you to concentrate on wellness and thus inner peace. Everyone else's advice is along the same lines. Many people have problems dealing with crowds. We are more sensitive and thus have to focus more on keeping ourselves calm and collected even during times of low personal stress. Perhaps, you could talk with the teacher and explain to them your challenge and if they are understanding, they will allow you to perhaps complete your work somewhere else or just go chill out somewhere. I know you probably don't want to be singled out or have people think things about you, but you are not what others think about you. You are in control of your life, not them. I wish you success in adapting to your environment. After all, you choose it at every moment. Also, pray to the God of your understanding and ask for help with this issue. Blessings.
Change your diet and you will change your behavior.

Reduce your caffeine and sugar.
Yeah, sounds like a case of anxiety. try breathing counting, asking you leave. talk to your parents about it. My sister has severe anxiety attacks, and she's had them forever, she goes to the doc and gets some pills but when she doesn't have any she just meditates and stays clear of people.
