Looking at your thoughts?

Why is it that when you ask someone a question about their past, they look up and to the right, as thought their memories are somewhere in the right hand side of their brain? And when you ask them something about themselves, (their personality) they focus somewhere just beyong their nose, or may even look down? Notice that as you read this question you will want to look up and to the right.

Answer:
I've always heard that if you look to the right you are remembering, if you look to the left you are making it up, if you look down it's emotional and if you look up it's factual. That's just what I have heard. I watch a lot of crime shows though lol.
actually I didn't look anywhere- but I do know if someone is going to lie they will look to the left!
I think that if a person looks up, he is searching for an answer that he believes can be extracted from his long term memory, which is perceived to contain visual markers extracted from the outside environment.

When a person looks down, he is searching for an answer that he can retrieve from his memory archives located in the hippocampus of his brain.
