Many would claim that in Western culture, the study of emotions started with Book Two of Aristotle's Rhetoric. There were several earlier works, but this is the mostly wide read.
Most sites deal with emotional problems and not the quality of life or change in behavior caused by emotions. Adler and Towne made a fairly comprehensive list in 1996. They were concerned about emotional reactions of humans and non-verbal communication. Display of emotions is very important in communication.
Emotions are usually expressed differently by each gender in Western Cultures. This becomes an issue with transgendered people.
Other Cultures can take very much different attitudes. Keep in mind that the Emotions are not well understood and there are widely different views on what they are, how they change us and how they should be controlled or expressed.
