Handling Myself and Other People at Work?
I got laid off from that job & I'm starting a new place where I'll be working w/some former colleagues. The new job is definitely over my head in many ways, but because I was offered it, I want to give it a shot. I'm just not confident w/my abilities to handle people & situations that I messed up in the past. I feel like I have to be a whole new person, yet I don't know who I need to be & how to become a new person
I'm taking a big chance at messing up & I'm afraid of this. I feel awful about looking like a fool again. My reputation in the industry is a joke
What do I need to know & do to not be a weak victim of bullying again?
Answer:
First off, you need to get some self-esteem. Stop seeing yourself as a "weak victim". Sit down and work out all your strengths and focus on them - you are probably a whole lot better than you think. As for your weak points (we all have them, even these horrible sounding workmates), find ways to change or adapt.
Forget the past. You are in a new place. You had the courage to take it on, so be brave, bite the bullet and act like you ARE confident and you ARE able.
What happens in your mind will come out through your actions and attitude which people will see.
Without knowing the specifics of your situation, you need to stand up and be assertive. Sometimes when a quiet person retaliates it has a lot of impact, but choose your moments.
It is a good idea to get some books on how to cope with this or seek a counsellor if you feel you need more support.
Good Luck.
