How do you know when its time you should go for help? Help meaning counselling/therapy?

Im 16,and I want to go for some sort of help.I strongly believe I have BPD,and I have other issues that I want to sort out before they turn into something really nasty, because I know things have the potential to get really bad with me,as it has before. However, everyone I mentioned this to said not to go.They think I have to have more serious problems to go for that kind of help.=\.So how do you really know if you should go or not?

Answer:
You go when you feel like you should go. No one else lives in your body than you, therefore no one knows you as well as you do. If your gut feeling is that you could benefit from some therapy than go. Therapy is much more effective when the patient really wants to go and to receive help. therapy is one of the most difficult things that we can do for ourselves. It helps a lot when we really believe that it can and will help us. That is the time that it makes it easier and more likely that we will be open and honest with our therapist. If we don't do that we will not benefit from the therapy. So go it's your life and it's your future.
Just go, you would hope that who ever you talk too know's what the heck there doing and they'll know if you need to be seen, and can refer you to specific places for your needs. The fact that you've brought this up and are asking about it tells me you think you do need help. You should listen to yourself.
trust yourself -
There isn't a certain point of nueral problems one would count...you know if you feel bad or not and you know what is right from wrong. Sometimes though we don't understand why it is we are thinking one way and it becomes confusing and this is where mental health professionals come in to play. They help you identify what it is that is bothering you and then lead you in the right path (most of the time) to positive feeling about yourself. I think everyone would benefit by talking to someone about their problems or issues. One exception to this would be if you were having feelings of wanting to harm yourself or others then immediate care would be needed. The fact that if you feel this way and have acknowledged it to yourself and know that you need the help, then you know what your inner id is saying one thing and your conscious mind is telling you another thing.
Be proud of yourself that you have the courage to get help. Once you see a therapist he/she can inform you of a diagnosis.Only you know what is going on in your head no one else can tell you what you are thinking. Please trust your instincts.
Its rather easy to figure out if you should seek professional help or try to help yourself. If you can find solutions to your problems on your own or with the help of trusted adults, you dont need professional help. If your problems are to the point that you cant find a solution and adults in your life cant help you either, seek professional help. Its just like anything else that goes wrong, like plumbing. First you use the plunger and liquid plumber, if that doesnt work you call a professional.
As most of the previous answers to this question have indicated, generally speaking using your own judgment on this one is probably the best course. However, if you need some direction in this area, think about this: Do the problems you are having significantly interfere with your current life? For example, have these problems caused you to be absent from school, or prevented you from doing things you would normally do with your friends or family? Do you worry about these problems on a daily basis, and has this worry significantly interfered with your daily routine? All psychological disorders, whatever they may be, require evidence that the symptoms impair your functioning in some way. If this is the case for you, that would definitely be a good sign to go talk to someone.
Baby this is the number ONE rule. If you feel like you need therapy you probably do.
Do what you think is right for you and don't let other people sway your decision. Your the best judge of yourself getting out of control and needing help. At one time or another all of us need help, being as your 16 and can recognize this says your on the right path! Good luck to ya and remember there are always people who care!!
