Morals are of two forms: one is intent while the other is nature. Which of them is better than the other? Why?
Answer:
Intent because you can control that. I think if most of us just "intended" to treat one another better, the world would be far better.
intent - the motive, reasoning, and logic that takes place to determine one's morals and the reasoning of doing or not doing something, or how something is done is all a reflection of the true person
Define your terms. Do you mean morals as in a means of self-regulation? Or do you mean morals as in a code of living that is accepted by those in a community of like-minded individuals?
The way I see it, morals are of two kinds. First is a sense of self-regulation that comes from within an individual. Call it virtue, perhaps. Second is a set of ethical codes imposed by the culture in which a person lives.
So I guess we really can't have a meaningful discussion on "morals" unless we can agree on what you mean byt "morals"...
I answered something similar some time ago (though I didn't get the ten points).
No, morals don't have two forms. Rather there are two ways to know if an act is moral: it can either have a moral motive or intent or it can have a moral nature (in legal philosophy you would substitute nature for result).
In regards to motive, if you do someone wrong but you actually had the intention of doing right, then your act is still moral. But, on the other hand saying lies can be justified if it is intended to avoid bigger harm or pain.
In regards to the nature of an act, something like giving charity can still be considered a good/right action regardless if the motives are tax evasion.
So if you agree with motives, then doing the right thing for any reason other than expecting to do the right thing would not justify the act as moral. But if you agree that what is important is the nature of actions, then not being able to do wrong/bad still makes your actions moral.
I definitely agree that intent is a better way to judge an act.
