How well respected and accepted are Freud's theories within the psychological community?

Anyone have an approx. % or something?

Answer:
I can't give you a %, but I can tell you that while many people see Freud as being a drug-addled freak, they also credit him with being one of the founders of psychoanalysis, which is still used in different forms today. Freud was a little off the mark, but many of his reworked ideas are present in current-day theory
I think fairly respected, but just keep in mind that sometimes a cigar is just a cigar!
Well. he was an innovator for his time. They have some merit, but are a bit outdated.
Most of his theories are generally not accepted anymore in the psychological community. His theories were mostly based on research that he conducted often on himself, and therefore discrediting most of his results. However, he is credited as raising the interest of the world in psychology and was one of the first scientists to study dreams in detail.
Freud's theories lacked hard scientific data to support his claims. Many teachers view this lack of 'hard science', as well as his blatant chemical dependancies, as further marginalizing his role is modern psychological research.

Basically he is respected as one of the father's of psychology, but when compared to Skinner or Pavlov (other 'father's') he is no longer to focal point for continued research
Going to light up a cigar will tell you when I get back.
