how would someone with bad bdd be able to stand going to the gym if its so hard for them to go everywhere else?

I think the previous responder answered to a question informing how you could get someone with BDD to go to the gym --- I may be wrong here and she may be right, but I interpreted the question as how do these individuals manage to go to the gym when they avoid going elsewhere.
In response to my interpretation of your question, I think that if they want to go to the gym it probably has to do more with body size issues that they have BDD and therefore, in their narrowed vision of themselves and what's going on, going to the gym would make them look better eventually so it's worth it and it's ok to go.
That's just my guess and I could be totally wrong but I can;t think of any other reason why they would go to the gym when they avoid public places in general.
Well, hopefully they're processing that with a specialized counselor, or at least a close friend.
It would be a good idea to go with a friend (someone who doesn't contribute to the bdd)
If you have the money, hiring a trainer (that has more than a couple weekends of training, ask for someone with a degree or certification if available) would be a good idea.
They'll give you the straight talk you need, but with care. It's important to exercise, not just to alter your appearance. It's good for your insides & your brain too.

It's terrible..and I'm lucky I'm on vacation so I get to stay home. My dad bought me The BDD workbook so that I could try to find coping skills for my BDD; maybe it'll help you too?
Write down why going to the gym would be a bad thing, then write down the actual probability of something bad happening(an attack or maybe the need to do rituals). Then when you feel an attack coming on, take out the paper and read it. You'll notice how different your prediction is compared to the real situation.
