Well if too many people are expecting everything from you without a price, then maybe you're selling yourself short? When people see vulnerability, they go for the throat. Or at least the smart ones do. Let them know you won't give in, and you'll see results!
Because they don't want to work for it. They want it handed to them on a silver platter. Someone has enabled them in the past and they expect to get most things without working for them.

Too many people think that the world owes them a living.
As a teacher I see a disturbing amount of kids who expect immediate reward for doing exactly what they should be doing anyway... unfortunately they often get it.
People need to learn that reward is rarely immediate, and they need to have patience in order to appreciate it properly.

missing moral values such as gratitude that their parents didn't teach them.
And I see it too often in FunQA.coms, there are people asking for homework help for an entire chunk of questions, requests for free programming code for their projects (large scale ones), getting a valid answer that most likely helped them but didn't bother to elect a best answer etc etc.
People are selfish, and most of the time stupid enough to think that this sort of behaviour would encourage people to go on and continue being taken advantage of.
People, especially here in America, have come to expect things to be handed to them because we've spoiled ourselves. We've turned ourselves into what we are, I don't know why. Not everyone has fallen into the trap though ;)
People are inherently lazy. We complicate our lives with burden so we are forced to work.
If we did not need to work, the world would be full of lazy people sleeping, drinking in bars, constantly eating, and lounging on the beach like whales. Everyone would be touching each other because they would be so fat, no elbow room would be left. We would congregate and possibly mate with sea lions. Imagine the offspring.
It's a learned behavior.
