Are they...?

are people just naturely violent?

Answer:
If you watch the news then you would be forgiven for thinking that the whole human race is headed for one giant killing spree that wipes us all out.

I think we are naturally protective of what we consider ours; our family, our friends, our posessions, our money, our position in life.when we think something we consider ours is threatened we naturally become protective & all have the potential to become violent.

If someone came into my home & threatened my family I think I would definately have the potential to get really agressive. I hope that I would do anything necessary to protect the people I love. Not so much my posessions as they are replacable but definately people!

a bad seed can not produce good fruit.

Everything a person says and does comes from within.
Yes, in many cases there is an essence of what people do as being natural.
we are all a product of our upbringing
That is a difficult question to answer and both sides can be debated thoroughly.

Biologically some people's genes make them predisposed to conditions that can make them naturally violent (sociopath, anti-social personality disorder etc.).

Sticking with genetics, we all have the ability of fight or flight. When a conflict is imminent, people always determine if it is time to fight or run. Perhaps some people feel the tendency to fight more while others do not.

There is a lot of philosophy written about human nature. Thomas Hobbes wrote a work called The Leviathan. In parts of this work he talks about how humans started in the state of nature. In this state it was chaotic with people killing one another to achieve their own means to an end. Until some ruling force is introduced, humans were stuck in the state of nature.

I believe another Philosopher named Rousseau wrote about inequality being a driving factor for violence. He states in one of his works about how money or other forms of tender (cattle, crops, services) create an inequality amongst the people. This inequality will drive people to act in certain ways to acquire things they did not have.

From a survivalist perspective people can be violent as a means for survival. In the most basic way, we are always striving to survive. Perhaps some people feel the best way to survive is to take what they need at the expense of others (be it violent or not).

Hope some of this helps.
Yes and no. People are naturally inclined to protect themselves and do what's beneficial to them. So, wars break out all the time over borders and religious beliefs, etc.

They (in general) do not see it as a crime to kill another human if they are protecting these things: family, home (could be home borders), or beliefs.

There are a few people who kill for pleasure alone, but that's pretty rare. Usually people kill because they believe what they do and they feel another person is threatening that in some way or another
In nature, there is violence. There will be violent people in all areas of life. Some people are violent because they grew up being treated inhumanely. Some people are because they see violence as a means to an end. Some people are violent because they just want to see something suffer. Some people are violent because they are cornered, or feel threatened.

To a point, everyone is guilty of being violent. Have you ever killed a mosquito? I can guess that the mosquito thought that it was a violent thing to do.

So, there is no doubt that people are violent. The question then is what is the intention behind the violence? Is the violence a justifiable response to what is being done? Or, is it just a choice we make?
