Are you against porn? Why?
Answer:
i'm forced to wonder, in your paper are you offering real references for your claims? i've not seen one piece of evidence that pornography has any real (read as scientifically valid) correlation with perpetrating violent acts.
furthermore, i'm curious as to how you rationalize pornography ruining families? perhaps the guilt or feelings of inferiority can be exacerbated by porn but in and of itself it can hardly have any such effect. well unless you mean posing or acting in such material has destroyed families then i can see your point.
finally, i think you are on the wrong vein of thought. you like so many who feel the need to force conformity to one's ideals are attributing abilities to inanimate objects that clearly are irrational at best. pornography is hardly a new invention. i can't recall the last time i heard someone attribute rape and/or assault to the likes of Michelangelo's "David" or Sebastiano Ricci's "Bacchus And Ariadne"
to be sure people who are violent by nature and/or emotionally disturbed can be triggered by visual stimuli. but to blame the inanimate object is nothing less than another attempt at turning our society into one of victims.
it's far past time that folks learn once again to take responsibility for their own actions instead of being encouraged to blame any and everything they can. why has personal culpability become such a horrific idea? and why do we as a society continue to try and justify crimes against others by shifting blame?
sorry i know you were looking for the other side of the arguement. perhaps my points will help you to form rebuttal, i hope that at the very least they force you to think about your position and evaluate the issue at the heart of the matter.
It cheapens the sexual act. It causes partners to be unfaithful even if it is just in thought. It destroys healthy sexual vulnerablity. Do you not know why it's wrong?
It sounds as if your paper is suffering from one of the most common errors, the mistaken assumption that correlation equates causation. There may be a very strong correlation between porn consumption and the problems you listed, but it does not show it to be the cause. It may well be a symptom instead.
I am not saying that porn is being unjustly denegraded, but if you are arguing the point it is important to make sure it is not backed by a flawed assumption.
