Can anyone explain why humans have mood?

Mood is composed of a mix of elements; the environment, the interpretation of the environment, the emotion(s) attached to the interpretation, analyzation of of the interpretation, and then importance of the experience to store as memory and learn from it or disregard it.
Depending on the environment and the perspective of the individual a mood is created no matter if good, bad or neutral. It is our internal environment meter to keep in check with what should happen next if something were to excite or illicit a response.

First of all, humans aren't the only species to exhibit moods. Perhaps moods are based and influenced on all levels of the five senses(or most)
Because we are created in the image of God-- we reflect him in many ways. This includes being complex. God designed us to have emotions, some emotions are not healthy because they are affected by the fall of man kind. Our emotions are a reflection of our creator.
Humans have mind, soul and spirit, each with their own warring factors. The Lord brings' them into balance when we return to Him, from our fallen state, and His spirit comes' to live inside us.He tells' us what we need to do, if we listen, because we are then able to be whole and complete again.
We react out of selfishness and willfulness and pride- which make us moody and negative vibes from without-satan- and within- our sinful nature.
