How do you overcome a mental block?
Answer:
The more you start and then balk the more practiced you become at balking.
You may want to consider practicing it in your imagination.
There is a great (and old) book on this called "Phycho-cyberetics".
Pick up a copy and learn how to do ANYTHING better.
And stop practicing those incomplete doubles.
You already do them too well.
You just have to keep trying it took me a year of getting half way through a back flip and just stopping before I could do it.
Wear protective gear during practice on the ice. I.E. helmet and pads. It may look ungraceful, but you can go at it with reckless abandon, fall down a few times and not worry about getting seriously injured. As with all sports, no pain no gain, just keep practicing and let go of your inhibitions.
Maybe you are growing up and coming to your senses. Ice skating is not for the timid. Maybe you are coming out of your reckless phase and no longer want to place yourself in bodily harm. Let's face it, in a sport like that you are prone to injury, especially if you are very competitive. Maybe you are just starting to see that the dangers don't warrant the glory of winning medals or trophies. Real competitors are a little bit crazy, because they don't really care as much if they get hurt. All that matters to them is winning. You are probably not one of these obsessive types of people.
