Spawned from an earlier question of mine; about the best way to deal with stress-running?

It does seem that running or driving are the most common and most effective coping mechinisms of anger and stress. What are your thoughts on why these methods are the most effective for this emotion. Aside from endorphine release...Why do you think people choose running/driving?

My thought is that people do not want to solve the problem, and displace themselves from the responsibility to understand something.

Answer:
the 'open road' metaphor goes way back in american culture, the future and present sorta merge as the road passes underneath you -- maybe that is a calming influence on the mind
running is different, something to do with modifying the energy levels in the body and purging through sweat
in either case there is a zen quality which can be peaceful
YIKES! I would not like to be on the road with an angry driver behind me!

I would think it would be for silence.

I know in my home, I can't go anywhere to have a moment to myself.

Bicycling.

Running puts too much stress on the legs and feet. Injury is easily obtained in repeat running without proper stretching.

I pulled a muscle in high school track and limped around over many moons.

Walking long distances.

Bicycling is better because you can ride and rest. You can also get off and walk the bike for awhile.
