I need tips, Please?
I pull my hair from my head every single day. I have been doing it for about 4 years now. I am only 15 years old.
I know that I have Trichotillomania, so there is no need to describe and elaborate the details of it.
What I am looking for, is little tips that will help me end this habit. I've already tried stress balls, fake nails, and nothing seems to be working. I've looked at multiple websites that list these sorts of things but those don't help much either. Any other tips? Please list as many as you can think of.
Thank you.

You know what, do you believe the so called "mind over matter" theory? You said that you are 15, your brain cells are at their pick performance, and it is absolutely possible you can do battle it out. Our mind is the most powerful and important thing in this world. You must ponder and focus on this mindset. Basically, that mannerism is simply a defense mechanism for insecurity. And you must know that fact and understand it well so that you can think of a very effective way to counter act it. REMEMBER!! IF THERE A "WILL" THERE IS A "WAY". Every time this tendency sets in you will say this word "aloud" S T O P five times or more...
Well if you have stress don't hurt yourself or others to let it out. Let the stress out somewhere that won't embarrass you. Scream, or kick something throw something, or even punch your pillow or something. Squeeze something that will just let out your stress. But the best thing is try your best not to pull your hair or someone else's. The best way is to lay down and push your feet on something like the wall and just pull something like put your pillow between something and pull really hard. Ok well be careful and try to also get some other tips elsewhere. PEACE!
have you tried taking up a hobby ?
Try sewing ?
Start by something really simple like beads on a long piece of cloth then after you hafve finished you can make it into a belt and I can assure you that you would be so proud of your own handiwork as its really preety and you can wear it with any plain dress.
Tiny beads is not an easy thing to sew ..
I tried it .:(
Please seek professional help to find new and better ways of coping.
shave your head. If you don't have any hair to pull out, maybe you can kick the habit. It will grow back in time for school next fall.
Tell your doctor to find a specialist for you to help treat it.
See if certain things trigger it. Keep track of when you do it and why.
Always know where your hands are at all times.
I am assuming and also hoping you are taking medication for your disorder. Now you could buy a doll and use her hair to pull, I know that the feeling would not be the same but you could try. Have you used the rubber band on the wrist trick where you snap it everytime you get the urge to pull? This works well for cutters. Have you covered all the possible resources both in your town and on the web? Please don't give up, you can overcome this, with help and meds.
Are you on any medications? Some medications used for mental health purposes can cause trichotillomania in children and adolescents. I would definately say that the best option is first consult a team of doctors, specifically a neurologist, psychiatrist and either a general counselor or a neuropsychologist. Other than that, the 2 basic strategies have been lsited here. Keep you hands occupied as much as possible with some sort of hand coping skill or hobby. and Do some thinking changes by commanding yourself to stop, outloud, everytime you recognize the behavior.
On a personal note, I know how horrible this can be and I wish you the best in finding a way to overcome it. So many people misunderstand this illness and I just hope you can not beat yourself up because of their misunderstanding. Good Luck
