Are introverted people generally smart?

Answer:
Our 4.17 GPA son has always *thought* himself to be an introvert because he took a test in some class in HS. Afterwards, I bought him a black tee with the word "introvert" in teensy, weensy letters. He would not even wear it! He thought it was too LOUD LOL! (Now it is mine.)

As juniors they had a "pretend" election and, surprisingly, he decided to run...against the daughter of the *real* mayor of our nearby large city, with speeches, campaign managers, banners, the whole bit. I never thought he could beat her--popular, name recognition, $$$, etc. But "the introvert" won the election by a mile!

I think people who *think" of themselves as introverts do seem to be rather intelligent. I think you are right--the blabbermouths gather attention, but are rarely recognized for their brains (which are very well hidden).
yes because they listen more and blabber less.
not necessarily, but they often are depressed.
I think so, but then again, I'm introverted.
Not really. Intelligence and social interaction are somewhat linked. However highly intelligent people are not antisocial, quite the opposite; they do have little patience and are usually not understood . This is because when in normal conversations they make faster association of ideas and quickly dismiss any useless information making them prone to loose interest in maintaining 'banal dialog' going and to some that may be rude. When in the other had they contribute something, it usually requires a lengthy explanation which might make them sound condescending. Overall this stigmatizes their social algorithms and are generally seen as 'more lonely' and 'introverted'. Intelligent people will seldom close the door to anyone that approaches them (they will make a quick judgment) an introverted does as much as he can to avoid those situations. When an intelligent person is surrounded by his peers he will be vocal something that is rare in an introverted. The introverted has trust and some self-confidence issues. And to find a self-depreciating intelligent person is rare indeed
