It seems to me that it's very popular to have some sort of syndrome these days. Do we need category's?

Answer:
If we didn't have them, then likelihood is that someone would go about developing them.

I fit into a lot of categories already ~ and these could easily expand.

Sash.
One for those american people who cannot stay out of debt would be much needed.
Another one would be one for people who don't seem to know "how to get money"
Hi, It makes us feel different from the rest and thus unique. We dont think of ourselfs the same and we like that feeling. Others can put pitty on us and we love the attention. Its not so much that we need catagory's as much that it is people need a sense of feeling. They want emotions to be stired and they think thats the only way to get it.

When a child is cut on the finger or boped on the head they might not feel hardly any pain but they do cry out loud. They do this to test their boundries and also to get attention from an adult or older person.
The category is: conditions that are acceptable as reasonable provisions for rejection. There are so many nebulous diagnostic opinions that can be utilized as individualized causation for a lack of production, it's almost comical. If you want to be a failure, you will be.
Yes, absoloutely we do.
For example, there are children who we consider 'gifted' or 'genius' or even 'phenom' but the old categories of 'stupid' , 'thick' or even 'dumb' do not exist anymore as political correctness dictates that anyone unable to function as well as others in any given category(except Art) has an illness, disorder or syndrome.
No. It just gives people a label so that they can justify a self indulgent, self pitying wallow. A prime example of a meaningless 'syndrome' masquerading as an illness is Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome.PTSD was dreamed up by American psychiatrists as a catch all label to deal with war psychosis, post Vietnam, because the symptoms of returning vets. did not fit the standard diagnostic model for treatment and the gathering of statistics.Once this label reached the public domain, everyone and his brother seems to be a victim of PTSD.In the vast majority of cases, the returning vets. suffering from PTSD, had not even seen front line action. People just love a label to hang their problems on, it justifies how they feel and relieves them of any responsibility to do anything about it.
Yet another good question - I am starting to become worried the afore mentioned aliens have visited la villa grumble!

I think people find it comforting at times to be part of a group, so if they can have a syndrome its almost a common element and therefore they are not alone.
