What is the reason there is a greater percentage of right-handers to left-handers within population?
Thoughts about possible reasons, scientific stats, differences between right and left handers; notable experiences of either?
Answer:
Because the left hand gene is a recessive one, which means that the right-hand one will always be the dominant one and win - except on a few occasions.
For example call the left hand gene h and the right H
right hand can be HH or Hh [as it has dominated it]
However if two people are carriers [Hh]
then their child can become left handed hh,
or simply if both parents are lefties [hh] their child will be.
Because Nature knows left handedness is not right.
i have been wandering that too. i am left handed.
being left-handed is a sign of intelligence :P lol
I would speculate it is to do with the theory of lefties being more arty/creative etc. and right handers being more practical so potentially more likely to live longer to mate, and the eventual breeding out of lefties?
I would also suggest that many people my mothers generation were forced to use their right hand, how many people a generations ago were killed because of it. Again reducing the numbers of next generation.
It's an interesting question.
why is there more straight people than gay
why is there more people with 10 fingers then with 11
why do more sheep eat grass then eat pork
Because its the way it was meant to be
lefties should learn the right way
first reply from richard is twatish.
2 poeple live in my house. we are both left handed. a short while ago, i worked for a company employing 20 people . 11 of us were left handed. there is nothing wrong with being left handed.as a child i was the only one in my class. now more and more people are lefties. its strange isnt it?
I believe the answer lies within our brain regions and the functions they control.
The left hand is controlled by the right handside of the brain
The right hand is controlled by the left handside of the brain
Therefore the functions that are associated with the left handside of the brain ie; motor actions etc are those most used hence the right hand is predominately the most often triggered.so the majority of people would be righthanded as this would be the most dominant and evolution- wise ?!?!?!?
:0)
I think its 5% are left handed its a recessive gene
right handed or left handed ? means nothing
me i can use both
There is no reason I can think of.
New research suggests that left handed people may be a mirror image twin, the other twin having miscarried. Seen it in a programme cant remember what it was called.
Because in 17Th Century left handers were burned, drowned and hung as witches or children of the devil.
Left handedness in French is gauche this means clumsy, socially inept or incorrect.
Even in the early 1970s Children were forced to use their right hands to write if left handed or like me ambidextrous (use both hands equally).
There is a minor genetic advantage in being left handed. At this point in time the genetic trigger is unknown.
possibly it has to do with what part of the brain most of us use
I am left handed. So was my mum and my youngest son
the left half of the brain controls the right side of the body, and the left half is the one that controls language. Writing is a form of language and as such for most people they are right handed:
In 96% of the population, the side of the brain that contains the area important for language is the left side. People have dominant parts of their bodies for other jobs too. For example, about 90% of the population is right-handed. In other words, the right hand is dominant...right-handed people prefer to use their right hand for most tasks. What about the foot, eye and ear? Which foot is dominant? Which eye? Which ear?
