How can you tell the difference between intuition and how you feel about something from reasoning?

I mean, I had this hunch about something that kinda went against what appeared to be the case logically, but then I figured that I just wanted to believe that was the case so I reasoned things out and now I feel different about it, the feelings I have from thinking things through are now WAAYY dominant.

Any ideas as to how I can identify the true intuition here? Any techniques?

Answer:
For me, intuition is a feeling that comes over me and the reasoning part is done just using my head.

I don't know of any techniques but, I do suggest if you ever get a strong feeling, take notice of it.
True Intuition?? Not sure there is such thing.. No One actually knows an outcome, weather, kids, family, you. No can truly tell the future!

How would anyone know that stuff?? We live and we learn. You have a hunch, sure follow it. Don't expect the greatest expectations all the time, though.

We're human, Not perfect. don't expect it. And also try not to get overly Involved with a hunch etc. as you learned, you just don't know.. do ya.
Intuition, or the "gut feeling" is your first reaction to something. A decision you arrive at later would be the result of reasoning.
Intuition is a feeling that is intense and there is no real reason for it at the beginning. You just feel it so deeply that it won't go away. If you stop and think about how you feel about something and then come to a conclusion...that isn't intuition. That is reasoning.
Its that voice that keeps talking to you, until you get up and do it! The more you use it, the better your intuition will grow on you, and it will guide you in every possible way.
"Our two minds . One is an act of the emotional
mind, the other of the rational mind. In a very real
sense we have two minds, one that thinks and one that
feels" (Daniel Goleman, Emotional Intelligence,
Bloomsbury Publishing, London, 1996, page 8). This
rational mind is also called the faculty of logic and
reason. The Upanishads say that emotion (or intuition)
and reason are opposite in nature. Modern psychologists
have also observed the same but they are not very sure:

"At the same time, reason sometimes clearly seems to
come into conflict with some desires (even while not
being in conflict with others) giving us the impression
that reason is separate from emotion".

Though use of logic and reason appears very logical
in every situation, it has got its own limitations:

In the 1930s, Austrian mathematician Godel proved a
theorem which became the "Godel theorem" in cognition
theory. It states that any formalized 'logical' system
in principle cannot be complete in itself. It means
that a statement can always be found that can be
neither disproved nor proved using the means of that
particular system. To discuss about such a statement,
one must go beyond that very logic system; otherwise
nothing but a vicious circle will result. Psychologist
say that any experience is contingent - it's opposite
is logically possible and hence should not be treated
as contradictory.

The Upanishads call the emotional component of mind as
Chitta and the rational component of mind as Manas. The
nature of Manas changes with each and every perception
and it's understanding. Manas represents the
intellignce of a person. In general, women excell in
Chitta and men excell in Manas. Men have the ability to
transcend the limitations of Manas and activate the
higher component of mind Buddhi (intellect or wisdom)
which deals with deliberation of the pros and cons
using discrimination after considering what is
emotional and what is rational. It overcomes the
limitations of logic and reasoning.

In English, 'flourit' means the age of dawning or
flowering of wisdom; it also means the age of 40. (See
a multi-volume dictionary in a library). Generally,
Buddhi starts funtcioning after the age of 40 years,
but it may take longer for others. You can not blame a
teenager or a youth for not having it. It is a general
observation that only person aged beyond 40 years are
called intellectuals. You will rarely find a woman
being called an intellectual because 'flourit' is not
well defined for them.
