What are some good tips for public speaking?
I get nervous, stutter, and even shake a bit. I avoid it when ever I can.
I'm a really outgoing person though, and I'm usually not afraid of much, and keep telling myself it's fine, but I just can't talk correctly or think straight.
Does anyone have any tips?
Answer:
Even the best public speakers say that they feel the pull inside them when they utter their first statement when facing the public. Try this:
1. Take 6 to 9 deep breaths before you start talking.
2. Look at the people, but not focusing on anyone specifically.
3. Practice speaking to a virtual public, then to people you know, then to a mixed audience.
4. Make deliberate effort to create circumstances where you must speak.
These helped me concurred my own fears.
The best way is to practice practice practice (not in your head!) but out loud to yourself in the mirror, stuffed animals friends whatever knowing what your going to say and keeping note cards in case you miss something really helps
I also ate public speaking but when I realized almost everyone hates it to... so while maybe afterwards you beat yourself up and think everyone is thinking about how you messed up most likely their only thinking of how they themselves messed up (think about it do you keep thinking of how someone else did?)
its never going to be 100% perfect no performance is. give yourself permisson to make those mistakes thats how we learn but don't dwell on it and move on
first believe in urself that u can do whatever u want to do.
secondly whenever u re to speak in public pretend the crowd do not exist, speak as if u re alone in the room or talking to a close frd of urs. that way u gradually build ur confidence.
If you really hate it but you have to do it sometimes, look up an organization called "Toastmasters" (http://www.toastmasters.org/). It's kind of like a club where you learn to be comfortable on a podium. They teach you all the tricks and you get experience in front of a sympathetic group. They have a lot of good tips.
Here is an article I came accross. They also say they are working on an ebook about that specific problem.
practice practice practice before you do it practice on friends relatives who ever will listen , i personally do lectures in front of 20 to 30 people and the best way to do it is be really prepared. also get the audience involved the more they are talking the less you are the focus. but the main thing is to just practice, the more you do it the less threatening it becomes, and it actually can become a skill, how to talk in front of others and grab their attention, good luck hope you find your comfort zone
