Are we are losing the ability to use our "gut feelings" and instincts?
Answer:
I went with my gut feelings 6 yrs ago when 'I thought' my son was on drugs. He was a master at hiding it, working 5 days a week as a scaffolder, but secretly, a heroin addict. My 'gut feelings', I think, saved his life. He had never been involved in drugs before (I hope I would have known). My instincts as a mother was right and after helping him, to this day he is drug free. I knew I wasn't wrong.
We probably are...though we shouldn't...that "gut feeling" is very good...I think...
Most of our instinctive responses are illegal, that's why.
I have to use my gut feeling everyday in my job...if i`m undecided i then go through the evidence/proof then make my decision.i`m hardly ever wrong and trust them more than your so-called proofs.you can get fake documents/wage slips/ID but you cant fake your instincts.
I use a combination...usually gut feelings are right and flag a warning or alert.then you can use evidence, data etc. to confirm. I trust my instincts and gut feelings as they have been helpful in many situations during my life. Comes from building on the many experiences we have kind of instantly.
I have always trusted my gut feelings and I've never looked back. I prefer to think for myself, most people like to be told what to do-like sheep.
I think the saying "use it or lose it "is perfect for this question. We are so dependent on computers now, until we stop thinking as much as we should, that includes using our instincts.I don't hate computers. They should be used to help us when we're thinking ,not think for us.
most of the time we should go with our gut feeling. but more and more people are so out of tune with their bodies and themselves that they don't even know warning signs of a health issue. everyone is so distracted because of material items (i.e people don't know when to stop eating because a tv is in front of them and they aren't listening to their stomach telling them their full) and no one wants to listen to their inside voice. its lik everyone is so afraid to be by themselves and actually be with themselves. I'm 99% right when I trust and go with my instincts because I actually listen and learn from my body, no one elses.
i agree with you...and yes i trust my gut feelings often, and most of the time i'm right about it
When I listen to my gut feelings I nearly always make the right choice. Sometimes I don't listen or dismiss the notion and that is when I have trouble. Sometimes I over think and then I have problems. If I am relaxed I can make a rational decision based on my gut feelings and it is always right. When I attended college I had 2 ways to get there 1 way was slightly longer than the other. one day my gut feelings told me to take the long way but my head said no I want to get there quicker so I went the shorter way but I experienced untold delays on the train and it took me longer than if I had taken the longer way.
My gut feelings are usually right, but i tend to ignore it and make big mistakes which i should really stop!
I went to a child protection conference last year, and one of the themes was the need for professionals' 'gut instinct' to be taken into account during investigations (especially at the onset). So many children would have been saved from serious harm or death if more credence had been paid to social workers/nurses/teachers etc 'sensing something was wrong' rather than waiting for the definitive evidence. I have learnt over the years to listen to my gut feeling - failure to do so invariably ends in tears for me.
Ooh yes I use my gut feelings almost every time. I study science, but I cannot rely on it every time.
Science and technology are to blame, we are either told what we feel/experience is either totally crap or can be "explained by science fact/proof" or we are so busy on our computers/i-pods/mp3's/the tele etc that we do not recognise our feelings and instincts.
It's sad but i too am guilty of the technology thing.
However i do sometimes have flashes of gut instincts which i don't ignore.
